Vyvanse now Generic!!!
The patent on Vyvanse expired on Aug 23, 2023.
There is now an FDA-approved generic on the market. Normally when a medication goes generic one manufacturer gets a 6 month patent on their generic version. This means it may be some time before we see multiple generic Vyvanse options available. This also affects cost.
While this is great news for many whose insurance would not cover branded medication, it also may create some issues.
Prescription savings cards are now no longer valid.
With only one generic available now, access may become a challenge.
With it being newly generic the cost may still be out of reach for some
People previously receiving a brand named Vyvanse may no longer have insurance coverage for the brand name.
With it being newly generic it is likely to be prescribed more, and result in a shortage.
