Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

What should your client know about you?

First things first, it is of vital importance to me that you, my future clients, know that I count it an honor to hold space for you.

Yes, I studied. Yes, I understand how medications work and why the ones you are currently on may not be helping. Yes, I feel comfortable transitioning from your current med plan to one that may suit your needs more specifically. However, the most important thing to me as your provider is that you know and trust that I believe that YOU are the best informant of your care. It is of utmost importance that my clients feel safe, heard, and respected. I have been providing direct patient care for over 21 years, first as a nurse’s assistant helping those who are our most vulnerable, then as a registered nurse helping those who are most acutely ill, followed by the immense responsibility serving as assistant medical director during my last year in graduate school, and today I bring all of my experiences, both professionally and academically to serve you with great gratitude and understanding of my responsibility in this role.

What is your approach to providing care?

I have two ears and one mouth for a reason. First, I will hear you out. Mental health care trauma is a real experience for many and I’m here to listen first, to know what has not worked, and to apply the evidence-based knowledge I have and will continue to develop as your advocate and provider. Before we start or change medications I will always want to learn about your daily routines and challenges to have the best foundation on which to build your agency in your life. If medications are indicated I have no hesitation, but my goal is to remind my clients of their power in directing their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect to be challenged to see their life experience from varying perspectives and to be met where they are ~ It is an honor to me that my patients have expressed feeling safe to lay it all out and then together to sort out the pieces. There is no rush, we will go at your pace with structure and feedback that comes from the experience I have gained treating people with life altering diagnosis such as obsessive-compulsive disorders, depressive and bipolar disorders, schizoaffective/psychotic disorders, behavioral/attention disorders, grief, anxiety, and addictions. There are no mental afflictions we cannot face together.
